The hip-hop star cited strained vocal cords as the reason she couldn’t perform, but that didn’t stop her from making some aggressive statements.

Nicki Minaj said that if she had lip-synched during a series of U.K. concerts due to strained vocal cords, it would have become a major story. Yet while she averted that crisis by canceling the shows this past weekend, she opened a whole different can of worms with the way she made her mea culpa.

Responding to critical fans, Minaj lashed out in a not-so-delicate flurry of tweets Monday morning.

“I was in jeopardy of losing my voice entirely and needing surgery on my vocal chord [sic]. If u can’t understand that, your mother’s a WHORE!!!!” she told her followers. “I will NOT let you people make me feel horrible for a f—ing HEALTH issue! That’s what got me in this mess! I shldve listened 2 the doctor!”

Minaj’s rep told The Hollywood Reporter during the weekend that she exacerbated a pre-existing vocal cord injury when she took the stage Aug. 14 in New York City’s Roseland Ballroom, for a show that included Foxy Brown, Drake and Lil Wayne.
